I really want to love this pack. I'd say if you want to buy it, go to REI and have someone size you/ try it on before buying on Amazon. I had my first winter backpacking trip and during my "pre-pack" during the week before, I realized that my 65L just wouldn't cut it. I needed the pack quickly and online was the only option that would work unless I wanted to back out of the trip. While the trip went great and everything I needed fit into this pack, this is not the 85L option for a petite person.
I'm 5' flat and 120lb with zero waist - it seems like there is 3 inches between my bottom rib and my hip bone. So the super wide hip belt has done me no favors and the straps are comically about 5 inches above my shoulders due to how long the back board is (clearly didn't get the sizing on the back right.) I'm still using it for winter trips because I have my coat/ ski pants on usually so the digging of the belt isn't too bad, but I did have scarring on my hips as it wouldn't tighten down enough. Just all around poor choices on my part. The bag was so expensive I don't think I can justify upgrading/ replacing for at least another five years, so learn from my mistakes if you are petite.
